STP S5 Bonus | Andrew Gordon Macpherson (Dark Side of the Ring, Who Killed WCW?)
In this bonus interview episode, Andrew Gordon Macpherson talks about his music and TV editing career leading to his career scoring television documentaries, including the hit Vice series DARK SIDE OF THE RING, and WHO KILLED WCW produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. How the world of professional wrestling drama created a canvas for an epic soap-opera-esque musical approach, finding ways to blend spaghetti western with zen meditation bowls, and making a sub-culture of pro wrestling drama something for the average person to be able to appreciate. Plus, the influence of Jim Johnston on the iconic music all wrestling fans know. Bonus interview by Kenny Holmes and Matt Schrader. (Note: Technical difficulties interrupted the interview several times. We have edited to trim out some of these interruptions.)

great guys, amazing
Best choice of singer
My all-time favorite composer, and one of the best there ever was. Thank you Hans, for what you gave us.
Bolivia is the best song in the movie
I know imposteur syndrome very well 🙂
The difference between that has kept me coming back for more for years and years to that song and to that sample in particular. It has inspired me to go and do when little else has given me the drive to do so.
The black woman complaining about racist white people? Her dad is white AND rich, i thought the "modern audience" wasn't supposed to like that
John Ottman hates the fact that a UA-camr (Thomas Flight) was totally on point about the editing issues plaguing the scene. If John Ottman had commended Thomas’s critique of the clip then I would respect John a little more. And by the way John the number has grown to 4 million views on that video and growing.
This guy is an absolute legend
A very talented composer his score for Alien 3 and Batman Forever is great and memorable.
💕💕💕💕
Sounds like Arnie
Brother Listen to the ancestors Run Run far away Protect yourself
Great chat
"who would ever know the difference?" "nobody" this interaction alone is perhaps more deep than 90% of the philosophers i've read
The Godfather of Dance Music
This video is a gold mine.
“He knows…” What a lovely, empathetic thing to say. Kudos. 🥰
Best film score ever
Moroder's accent is on another level, like Arnie's level, so out there, living legends...
And then, history was made.
How embarrassing ... he's humming Fame instead of What A Feeling, and Fame had nothing to do with Moroder either ...
🤯
Fun Fact Christophe Beck Didn't Release the Soundtrack of Road House
I can
Wow, this level of humility from a talent like him......there is hope for the rest of us musicians who have felt this a million times before
Life changing. The sound made the movies more alive. It is beautiful.
Great 'n nice interview with Maestro Moroder!
5 years later... "*I think fans are gonna be happy.*" He wasn't wrong.
Why does he sound like Arnie
Had the cultural softpower of India been as powerful as west's. AR would have been biggest musician lived after beethovan....
If Arnold's life went another way.
I Hope you get to talk with my favorite Composer Alan Silvestri, since he's composing 2 scores this year, Robert Zemeckis' Here movie that he already scored, and The Russo Brothers' The Electric State that he's in the middle of scoring!
i love this.. i mean… I LOVE THIS!!!!😊
I loved the music from Christophe Beck since Buffy...the show wasn't the same when he left after Season 4.
Maniratnam and AR Rahman are a match made in heaven
The music sounds very spaghetti western, did Chris was inspired by Ennio Morricone music ?
“My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio.”
Amazing
click.
The synth solo just played in my head
The man is a pure genius. Parasite and Squid Game are just a small portion of his body of work. He is incredible prolific. Wild Flower sang by Park Hyo Shin is my fav work of his.
The Scarface soundtrack is still one of the best. So many bangers
He sounds like the kinda guy who definitely wanted to become a musician when he was 15, 16, when he really started to play guitar... But the dream being so big that he didn't see he had any chance because he was living in a little town. But then when he finally broke away from school, and became a musician, then he may have a little bit of a chance
Yes and also sounds like a guy that would like not only to play music but compose music. So basically at that time in Germany they already had discotheques, so he would take his car, go to a discotheque, sing... maybe 7/8 songs. He also sounds like one who was sleeping in his car and that's a thing that helped him survive in the beginning
He sounds like a guy who wants to do an album with the sounds of the 50s, the 60s, and the 70s, and then have a sound of the future. He sounds like he knows that synthesizer and that he should use the synthesizer which is the sound of the future. He sounds like he doesn't have any idea what to do but he needed a click so he put a click on the 24 track and synced it to the moog modular. He sounds like he knows that that could be the sound of the future, but he didn't realize how much impact it would be
He sounds like a guy whose name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls him... *Giorgio*
LMAO YOU ARE GOLD GUYS
This made me laugh lmao thank you
Why is Colin low-key jacked.
This has to be one of the best interviews with the guy
The editing throughout the film was distractingly poor. Not just the resturant scene.
Moroder Is always so charmingly understated about his work. He is insanely gifted as both a composer and producer. His film work is in a league of its own. As with I Feel Love, Midnight Express changed everything.
Hard to follow with the urge to go play the songs as he hums around
Artists being peculiar? In other news, water exists.
How to lose the Oscar with John Powell.
Giorgio man
